speech & language support

rooted in storytelling

kids book cluBs

Join us for weekly gatherings of immersive and hands-on read aloud activities, aimed to foster a love of books, boost early language skills, and provide families with practical tips for teaching early communication at home. All activities incorporate evidence based speech-language acquisition strategies in a play based manner. Clubs are offered for various age ranges:

“Babble Baby” book club, ages 3-10 months.

“Talking Tots” book club, ages 10 - 24 months.

“Stories & Beyond” book club, ages 2 - 3 years.

Note: these book clubs are designed to be accessible to children with a variety of learning profiles, but your child does NOT need to have a language delay to attend. They are open to ALL children and parents who have an interest in learning how to incorporate books into daily routines.

what we offer

AAC SUPPORT in the community

Augmentative Alternative Communication is a valuable (but often misunderstood) tool for supporting children as they develop language. Whether your child is non-verbal, having trouble being understood clearly, or simply benefits from visual language supports- AAC should be accessible to you. We strive to partner with local businesses to effectively integrate various forms of AAC into the community. We are kicking off 2026 in collaboration with Ronnie’s (a local sensory friendly hairstylist)- offering accessible language supports before/during/after your haircut appointment.

For those wanting to get started (or continue) integrating individualized AAC into their daily routines… we also offer AAC device programming & coaching integrated into a 4-5 week long home trial of a high tech communication device. We are a part of the Simpli Speech team, which allows your child’s health insurance plan to lower the out-of-pocket cost of an AAC trial and device ownership.

the sensory leadership project

The Sensory Leadership Project is a group of neurodivergent tweens/teens who gather weekly to collaborate on sensory-based projects. This group is a one-of a kind therapeutic service that allows us to work on individual communication goals while also… engaging with sensory experiences, fostering peer relationships, inspiring a sense of leadership, exercising executive functioning skills, boosting self-confidence and becoming involved in the community.

This service is offered in partnership with Feed the Need Sensory Zone (participation is included in the homeschool co-op monthly membership). The first group project for 2026 is to create custom apparel & goods, which will be featured in student run pop-up shops around the community.

1:1 EVALUATIONS & therapy

Comprehensive evaluations help to determine areas of needed support, inform how we can use communications strengths to build connections with peers, discover which evidenced based approach will best suit their needs, and design a treatment plan that is ultimately aimed to achieve greater independence and confidence while addressing communication challenges. Therapy sessions incorporate individual goal areas, and specific areas of interest, but also aim to inspire a love for literacy, storytelling and play- inclusive of all communication modalities.

We are a part of the Simpli Speech team, which allows your child’s health insurance plan to lower the out-of-pocket cost of services. Services can be provided virtually or at an agreed upon location (such as daycare, play-cafe, park, home) in the Ann Arbor / Ypsilanti area.

custom-made “experience books”

“Experience books” provide details (using pictures, text, and other tactile artifacts) about real events in a child's life so that they can be recounted at a later time. These personalized books are great tools to facilitate language about relevant topics, and help to organize memories in ways that can allow visual context for shared joy and meaningful conversations. They are helpful for children who have difficulty recalling information, or organizing thoughts in a cohesive manner for storytelling. They can even be a regulation tool for talking about upcoming/anticipated experiences that might be new/overwhelming.

“Experience books” can be made about a single event (such as a birthday party, vacation, etc), or a semi-regular routine (such as swim class, haircut, playdate, etc). No occurrence is too small or insignificant to be documented in a child's experience book.

Reach out to order a custom-made “experience book”, designed collaboratively through caregiver input and SLP expertise.
